This post has been up only hours, and there are already 240 readers of the manuscript. That is a measure of how electrofying it is.
Months ago I mentioned the Robert Adams movie project. A really incredible student of mine/Robert in Toronto, Matthew Brown, wrote this incredible screen play on Robert's life, entitled "The Life and Teachings of Robert Adams," based on long and careful reading of Robert's transcripts, and on numerous conversations I have had with Matthew over a year or so, both before and after he visited me in March of this year.
Read it. It is fantastic.

I would note that Robert had a recurring dream for the last two decades of his life. In it, he, Ramana, Christ, Nisargadatta and many other gurus came together in the center of a mountain, and all suddenly disappeared in a burst of light. Mathew's ending with Ramana gave a taste of this. I also note that when Robert was on his deathbed, he did see all those presences in the room, and asked people around him--mostly his family and Mary--whether they saw them. In his last hour he was in joyous communion with Ramana and others.
Mathew writes:
SILENCE – THE LIFE AND TEACHINGS OF ROBERT ADAMS Writer's Guild of America (West) Registration Number: 1432614 I was asked to write this screenplay by Edward Muzika, living teacher in the dual lineage of Nisargadatta Maharaj (by way of Jean Dunn, Nisargadatta's long-time student and transcriber) and Ramana Maharshi (by way of Robert Adams, enlightened teacher) when I visited him in Los Angeles in March, 2010.
I offer this screenplay to the world in the hopes that it may provide relief in the form of the wisdom non-duality teachings of advaita vedanta. I dedicate this screenplay to Robert Adams, a teacher whom I never met, but whose voice and presence resonate eternally within me as love. Om namah Shivaya, Om namah Arunachala, Om namah Sri Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi, Om namah Sri Nisargadatta Mahraj, Om namah Sri Robert. Om shanti, shanti, shanti, Om.
Peace. If anyone reading this screenplay wants to make it into a movie or excerpt parts of it for a dramatic stage production, please contact me. I would be very happy to facilitate this. Matthew Brown 370 College Street, Apt. 3, Toronto, Ont. M5T 1S6

Edji, Thank you
ReplyDeleteWOW. I love it!
ReplyDeleteYes it is wonderful indeed. It really depicts Robert fairly close to how he really was, and also adds enough of the teachings to be a mindblowing movie.
ReplyDeleteMatthew...Thank you for this gift! It is a treat to read.
ReplyDeleteBravo for your satsang!
I don't know why but every time I read something on Robert I cry. The scene where he plays with the snow and afterwords when surrounded by students he says "Snow. Snow." is so moving ... Thank you for this screenplay, Mathew. I look forward to finish reading it.
ReplyDeleteMuch love,
Janet

I am very happy to read these responses. Kevin, please do share script with friends at UMich and get back to me at teacherintherye@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteSincerely,

Excellent!!
ReplyDeleteI am happy to say that I have made some revisions to the screenplay following some suggestions made by David Godman, Ramana Maharshi scholar and biographer. The screenplay is still available at the same link on Scribd, but if you check the introduction, it now acknowledges that I have followed some of David Godman's suggestions. These help to make the depictions of life at Ramana Ashram a bit more accurate.
ReplyDeleteSincerely,
Matthew

I have read the script. It was very moving. Honestly, it was better than I thought.
ReplyDeleteThere is only one complaint I'd like to make: since it will be hard to see it produced anyway... why don't you make it like 4 hours long??
I'd love to read on!
